Much of the the Territorian population clings to two modernized centers: Darwin, the cosmopolitan capital, gateway to Southeast Asia, and mecca for a booming nomadic backpacker culture; and Alice Springs, an isolated settlement in the south persistently clinging to its rough and rugged image despite the onslaught of loafer-wearing, cappuccino-drinking tourists. In between these outposts lie several impressive national parks. The Top End’s Litchfield National Park boasts dramatic gorges and pristine plunge pools. No matter where you travel in this last frontier, you’ll see spectacular sunsets and more stars than almost anywhere else on earth.
